FIRE EXPLORATION: Please don’t think that because Forest School has the word ‘school’ in its title that its only for school age children. Not so! The outdoors is a young child’s natural habitat, giving them the chance to connect with nature, together with first hand experiences and endless opportunities for imaginative play experiences, making connections with the world around them and messy play to name but a few... in fact all aspects of learning and development stated in the Early Years Foundations Stage (EYFS) can be explored and developed outdoors. The benefits of spending time outdoors for children are enormous!

Child’s Play Private Nursery believe whole heartedly that “there is no such thing as bad weather just inappropriate clothing” and we take the opportunity to get outdoor whenever we can. Cold wintery days are no exception, our preschoolers from the Sunflower Room have been busy holding a camp fire in the nursery garden; melting marshmallows, and enjoying

some warm juice as well as having a sing along around the fire.

Naturally, the word FIRE can spark fear in most but managed properly with children who understand that their needs to be agreed values and rules to keep themselves and others around them safe dramatically reduce any risk factors associated. Child’s Play Special Carers will only engage in fire exploration with small groups of children and with thorough risk assessments in place to ensure everyone’s safety.

Over the next few months the Sunflower children are planning on exploring further ‘forestry’ themed experiences both on site and out and about in the local community.

If you would like any further information on this or any other type of play and learning experiences which we provide at nursery, please speak to the room senior Carla who will be more than happy to talk you through what we do and why we do it.
